don't drink the water!

So this is my giant pet peeve and it was only reiterated today as I saw some foolish person drinking the Fiji Water. You SHOULDN'T be drinking it! I cannot understand why someone is willing to shell out three freaking dollars to drink water just because its from Fiji. IT'S WATER for heaven's sakes. And can I tell you how many fossil fuel calories are used in the obtaining, packaging, shipping, buying, and transporting home this WATER! This is what's causing global warming and polar ice cap melting!
Water comes out of the tap. I am very against bottled water in every form EXCEPT one. Buy A SINGLE water bottle and then refill it with tap water over and over again. There is very very little difference in the "fiji" water and your tap water. Be nice to the environment, STOP drinking Fiji water.

Okay - will do. Three dollars for a H20 bottle is ridiculous!!

We've got to figure out something different for our water situation. We like COLD water straight from the fridge ... but with 3 kids, our refilled water bottles disappear way too fast. My dishwasher has been filled halfway with water bottles lately. So - I've stopped using them all together - and now my kids don't drink as much water. But, I'm sure they'll figure it out soon. Any suggestions?

Love, Michelle

P.S. - like the new song.

Don't wash them so frequently. Just rinse them, fill them and stick them back in the fridge. And don't worry about writing names on bottles either - it's good to share germies. It builds up your resistance (especially if it's just the family). Or opt for a Brita water filter to fill water bottles or cups. Maybe not owning a dish washer gives me the excuse to just rinse with hot water and not wash my cups. Oh well - Leisy and I have lost track of whose toothbrush is whose.

I must admit that I like the convenience and taste of bottled water. I do try to get it on sale when I buy it.

The price is irrevelant. It's the damage to the ecosystem to transport drinking water around the world that concerns us. Sale or no sale - Arctic animals are dying!!! - Kent

If you drink bottled water try to buy locally bottled water - not water from FIJI.

Have you tasted FIGI? I am very sensitive to the taste of the water I drink, but not particularly choosy about what I actually do drink and (although I have never purchased it myself) I find FIJI to be the very best tasting bottled water available (aside from distilled water, which of course requires a tremendous amount of heat energy to prepare, but is pennies a gallon for the consumer). As an American I find it fascinating that we can indulge in so many unique novelties (though I admit they are in no way necessities) available to us from so many places in the world. I really support the global market and believe the shrinking of the world provides many never-before-available opportunities. Although we may be contributing to an increase in average temperature across the globe by releasing carbon dioxide from fossil fuels, I am confident this planet is dynamic to such a degree that our contribution to the increase is a very low percentage of the cause and many other factors will bring balance to the change to prevent it from becoming a significant problem. Those who will be unable to do without their "FIJI's" will simply pass on. It's a crying shame if they can't adapt but we probably don't need them much anyhow. And just a reminder: EVERYONE and EVERYANIMAL is dying. It's a fact that cannot be changed.

For the record I advocate storing solar and wind energy in seperated H2 and O2 for recombination through fuel cells for electricity and through combustion for heat. I also drive a Hybrid vehicle for two reasons. First, the purchase supports further development by Honda of fuel cell technologies in vehicles and they are releasing a FULLY hydrogen fuel-cell powered road legal vehicle to the general public in Japan in 2008, and its very awesome looking and has TONS of torc. Second, the gas mileage in my hybrid is phenomenal.
