tegalalang rice terraces

Ubud, Bali is probably the most beautiful place I've ever been.  The rice terraces of Tegalalang should be a wonder of the world. every time I turned my head- I was shocked by the beauty.  It was 'take your breath away' incredible.

From the moment we stepped onto the first step down the terraces- I was mesmerized. and couldn't stop taking pictures. We arrived early so the place was nearly empty.

kadek carried mack everywhere.
I actually have some of it on video- but my mom was walking this very same path and stepped right into the muddy rice water!  she was up to almost her knee in mud!! it was pretty funny.
kadek was worried about mack on the steep slopes and watery paths- so he carried him all morning!

rice farming is INSANELY labor intensive.  can you see the grooves between the rice plants?  those are made by fingers.  and every field and every plant is taken care of with this much precision.
look at how amazing this all is!!  I wanted to stay here forever.  I could have explored for days.
we parked over by those buildings and then climbed down the terrace steps, back up the other side, and then through the terraces.  I love Ike in the sunglasses.
this lady was so happy to pose for my picture! and then demanded money.  ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
these workers tend to EVERY plant!!!  it's bonkers.  I will never look at a grain of rice the same way again.
because we came early in the morning- it wasn't incredibly hot!  the longer we were there- the more we started sweating!

Every time I look at these pictures- I think "I should have taken more!!".   There was so much to see.
we really are living the dream life right now.  I am so grateful for the Air Force and the path it has helped us forge.

I'm so glad you're posting all your adventures. I've enjoyed reading them on Facebook and keep thinking how lucky your kiddos are to have all this culture in their lives. I know the younger ones won't remember it all but they'll have these pics to help them. You certainly have taken all the advantages of travel while living in that area of the world. So smart!
