I take too many pictures of my kids, don't I?!

Here's the ragamuffin's three teeth.   this poor little girl has been teething her entire life- literally.  And it puts a major kink in our nap schedule lately.  She just fell asleep for her FIRST nap of the day- and it's three pm.  She's drugged and cranky- and just plain exhausted and sad.
There are blog posts all about Zeb's napping problems at this age, too. And it was all thanks to those darn teeth of his as well.
we'll see if the blue spots on her gums pop into teeth- but I'm not sure.  They are bilaterally symmetrical- and in weird places- so they may just be her blood vessels coming through and not bruises?!  Zeb had some weird ones on his face that people always thought were bruises when he was little.  I think it's the pale skin I pass on to my kiddos.
I really do love the binky. and I'm so glad that all of my kids have loved it too.
Sometimes her hair just look so darn red- and other times you'd swear it wasn't red at all.   But I think her red eyebrows pretty much guarantee shes gonna be at least strawberry blonde!
Zeb tries so hard to be the best brother! and he really is.   I think Metta looks most like him- but most of our friends say she's a little Ike.
Her big open mouthed cackle smiles are my favorite thing ever.
and upside down Ike.  His idea- not mine.  Because he was dying to get his picture taken, too.

crazy eye.

this little girly is such a little squirrely girl.  She's had real live tears since birth. really- there were true tears by day 3.   Most babies don't have tears for awhile, right?!
these pictures make me laugh.  they are so her when she's ticked.  luckily- it isn't often.   But when she's mad- she's really mad- and very deliberate.  Kind of like me.
and these pictures are of her mouth. She has weird purple spots on her gums.  Has anybody ever seen these before?  the in house pediatrician hasn't.  just blood vessels??  I was trying desperately to get a good picture - and she was not happy about it.
how funny is this picture?!?!?!  pretty creepy, huh? just one of her crazy eyes.

post call celebration.

Kent finished his intern year (first year of residency) in June and can now officially be 'on-call'.  It really isn't anything to celebrate considering it just means he now works 30 hour shifts every 3-4 days.  Before July his shifts were limited to 16 hours.

The celebration -however- comes when his call shift ends!  If he's lucky- he gets a few hours of sleep during his thirty hour 'call' and gets home at noon on day 2- and then doesn't have to go back until the next morning!  woohoo.  that means we get a half day off :)  Today- we celebrated that half day in full force.

Adventure #1:
Spent our 'cafe velo' groupon downtown along the river for lunch.  And this groupon happened to be free because three other people bought it from my link :)  thanks, friends!!
wraps, hot dog, cookies, and pretzels.
even with no naps- this chica was happy :)
and the weather was PERFECT.  80 degrees. lower humidity.  blue skies.
water fountains and wading pools to play in.

Adventure #2

After lunch and a walk we made our way over to Wezergyn gardens.  My kiddos love the giant stick maze.

and the water stuff is their favorite.  Here's another crazy Ike face.

what would these boys do without each other?!
the sand pit is pretty fun, too. Dayton has some really fun places to play!  this has got to be one of our favorites! it's rarely crazy busy- and there's so much fun stuff to do!
and this place is beautiful!!
metta enjoyed it, too. even though she ripped off her bow and looks like a boy here :)

Adventure #3

After we were all exhausted from the sun and water we went to 'Bad Frog Yogurt' with another free groupon :)  I think we ate more in samples than the ice cream we actually paid for! the worker handed us a stack of ten sample cups and told us to test them all!
Unfortunately I finished off the evening with a.g.e.  Acute gastro enteritis.  Thanks for bringing that home, Kent!  he had it last friday/saturday.  I woke up at three this morning with terribly violent vomits and other unpleasantries and didn't ever get back to sleep.  I'm using purel and lysol like you wouldn't believe.  I canNOT live with explosively sick children- so send prayers this way that they don't get it.  please!!

check out these tired boys.  This picture makes them seem so darn grown up to me.  Zeb is so funny when he first gets out of bed.  School mornings may be a little rough!  I can't wait for daylight savings to switch over and make the days seem shorter.  My life is easier when days are shorter :)

Ike gets goofier by the day. and when kent is home- he's a zillion times goofier.  I can't let them sit next to each other at church because they are so irreverent.

I'm not sure what all of these playdough creatures are but Zeb was really proud of them and wanted me to take a picture for the blog. Zeb thinks that when I take pictures- they automatically pop up on the blog.
Metta is finally loving Kent.  She gets so excited when he gets home from work. She searches for him when she hears his voice. and she smiles at him like crazy!
kent was off on Saturday so we went to a place called "Hazzards" for putt- putt.  that's what they call mini golf out here.  I thought Hazzards was a strange name for a mini golf course- and then we golfed it. It was nutso.
oh yeah- and this shirt zeb is wearing KILLS me.  I should have never caved at that yard sale.  I made him swear he'd only wear it to bed. and now he sneaks it on when Kent gets him dressed and I'm not around. the little rascal.
On the golf course- it's nearly impossible to play without incurring all sorts of penalty strokes.  The golf balls float- and they've got nets everywhere to catch your skeewompous strokes.

the boys loved it.  although we almost lost Zeb and Ike into the water a few times.  and I couldn't stop thinking about this story where a young girl died on a mini golf course when she got electrocuted after wading in after a lost ball!!
this was Ike's favorite hole.  the ball got carried down stream and into a giant pond near another hole!
and then after golf we went for ice cream cones.  Zeb was in the back of the van and started getting really frustrated.  Kent asked him what was wrong and he screamed: "it's so STINKING hot back here and I am so DANG hungry!".  hmmm.  I wonder where he got those phrases.

* laney- here's the closeup. it's a super mario sluggers half jersey/half t-shirt. it's hideous.

our book club list. and more metta spaghetta

I love this picture.  It's metta's favorite pose.  she looked like this in utero for every ultrasound, even.  One hand on top of her head. Even on the night of delivery- they were worried about her hand coming first and causing dislocation!  I'm pretty sure it's her diva pose.

ever since metta became 'unbroken'- this three kid thing has been really nice :) really. those first bad weeks were BAD, so bad.  I wanted to give up. but then metta was somehow got better- and we've never looked back.
I was pretty surprised at the ease of the transition. I'd heard horror stories about the 2 to 3 change.  But Zeb and Ike are best pals and great boys- so adding metta has been pretty seamless.   Maybe because I just drag her around and make her take morning naps at the gym- and afternoon naps whenever we happen to get home- and I put her to bed when I'm tired of having three :)  but she's a good sport- and a great little ragamuffin!!
plus- those CRAZY eyes.  they make having three more bearable :)
and yes- I'll admit it- I was secretly hoping for a third boy- but there's something pretty fun about having a girl after two boys.  you know- like I've finally got someone on my side.

she doesn't have to be super girly or ALL about pink and bows and flowers all of the time.
our little miss is still in the 80th percentile for height! eek. she's going to be taller than her brothers!! 26.5 inches.  and she weighed in at 14 lbs 13 ounces today!  with a relatively unremarkable renal ultrasound- which means we just wait to see if she gets any more UTIs before before we take further action.

and for all of you readers out here- I just started a Book Club- and here's our first list of books to choose from if anybody is in need of a good read!  I've read several already- but I'm excited to try some of the new ones!!  any opinions on which three I should vote to read?  I just finished "The Fault in Our Stars" in one sitting and REALLY enjoyed it. and Unbroken is one of my favorites of all time!!

z.e.b.

this kid is way too much.  such a turkey.  we've got a school countdown started.  every morning we wake up and I ask him about kindergarten: "Are you nervous?"- to which he always replies: "No! I'm excited!!!".    And he really is. Excited and ready.  I'm excited and ready, too.  We finally checked off the final 'to know' item off his kindergarten readiness list.  It was our phone number. I'd never taught him because it's a cell phone and I just didn't think about it.   So now he knows.
this past sunday- at 9:25- we were all ready to go to church.  The boys had buckled themselves in their carseats.  I got metta in and set off to go. and then the garage wouldn't open. and it made a funny noise.  so I got out to make sure there wasn't something in the way. there wasn't- so I tried one more time. Still nothing.  I got up on the van and switched off the garage door opener so I could open in manually. I tried to open it- still no luck.  I called kent at work- he didn't answer.  We were stuck. In the garage- and we were supposed to pick up four people to take to church.  I was a little stressed.  I tried calling Kent again and Zeb started yelling at me from the van: "mom! mom! mom!".  I finally responded with a frustrated- "what!?".  "I locked it, mom.  I locked the garage" he nervously told me.   "What?!"- I shrieked. I checked- and the manual lock had been slid into position on the far side of the garage. "Why!??" I shrieked again?!  to which he whispered:"I didn't want to go to church".  The little rascal. He knew I was ticked. When I'm late- I'm GRUMPY. especially when it's late to church.  Lucky for him we made it just in time- and still got my favorite seat. And as soon as we sat down he came up to me and begged for my forgiveness.  I made him promise he'd never complain about going to church again. It's something we do in this family. every sunday. never fail.  He really is such a good little boy- but a little too smart for his own good. I had no idea he even knew how to manually lock the garage.

so- in order to get my sisters posting on their blogs more often- my mom is offering payouts.  1 dollar/post.  Expect some pretty hefty blogging from me in the next little while.

At least one Saturday a month growing up- after morning chores were finished- my dad would get us all excited and announce that he was taking us out for lunch.  And then he'd drive us over to RC Willey for free hot dogs and pop.  I fell for it month after month.  and I hated the hot dogs and pop.

This past saturday we did it to our kids.  at lowes.  Luckily- they also offered their free 'build and grow' program.  And my kids loved the hot dogs :)

Our pals from church are the ones who told us about the 'build and grow' thing- they were all there, too.
Kent and Zeb ran into a few problems with their projects- but Zeb said he didn't mind if his was a little 'bumpy'. :)
Ike and I executed our projects flawlessly :)

Metta and her pal Cora just hung out and watched.  Metta has been doing a lot of slobbery beat boxing lately. It's RIDICULOUS in places like church where we are supposed to be quiet.
Later that day we had a little party with the same friends so their parents could go to columbus for the evening.  They have four girls and Kent was worried there wouldn't be enough for them to do with all of our race cars and trains and light sabers- so he insisted on a craft.  He went to Walmart and bought some ceramic animals to paint and all the kiddos LOVED it.
Our boys' animals were quite a bit sloppier than the girls'- but they loved it nonetheless.
