the "me" post. celebrating 800.

Zeb and Ike always get their own posts- so I've decided that it's my turn. In honor of post 800- I'm doing one all about me.
I'm rarely in any of the pictures I post because I'm always the picture taker- so for this post I'm using a stolen picture from our cooking group last week. The theme was pastas. There was some fabulous food and even better company.

1. Project Runway starts tonight. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I love it. I am so happy. It changed networks so I thought we were going to miss this season- but then we magically got cable. I like to call it a project runway miracle.

2. I went to the doctor today because a number of things have been bothering me. When I fell the second time back in may, I hurt my elbow and it hasn't been healing properly. Luckily it's not a joint issue- or anything really internal- it's just the scar/scab. It almost looks like a blister. When the doctor saw it she immediately asked "does skin cancer run in your family?". She knew it was the result of a fall so when she asked that it shocked me- mostly because, YES skin cancer runs rampant in my family! Apparently I have a hypertrophic scar and they very very rarely turn into cancer. ahh. She poked in it with a needle- scraped at it with a scalpel- and I've got to watch it for four more weeks to see if it starts to go away or else I have to get it removed.

3. and finally - I did a little google doctoring and self diagnosed my next issue. My doctor agreed. I've got TMJ (Temporomandibular joint disorder). She stuck her hands to my jaw and her jaw dropped. She even commented that it was no wonder I was having headaches and head pain. Luckily tmj can go away (sort of) and has some treatments (kind of). I've always had a popping jaw- but since Ike was born it's gotten pretty bad. Apparently it is most common in child bearing women?! I guess it's time to stop bearing children, huh? I've got a mouth guard now (which I HATE and almost always unknowingly yank out while asleep) and she gave me a prescription (that I'm still debating on whether or not to use) and some advice. Let's hope things start improving. Any advice from anyone else?

I was diagnosed with tmj in high school. Originally the gave me the mouth guard but I ended up grinding my teeth right through it (and yes i took it out in my sleep too) so I had to get more intense one-it was made of the same materials as retainers and I hated wearing it but it helped (i've lost it in the last 9 or so years and don't have dental insurance that would cover it but if i could i'd get another) if she gave you an rx for a muscle relaxer i say fill it and keep it handy. don't use it too many nights in a row or else you can get hooked.
(sorry about the lack of cap letters-my daughter fell asleep on my left arm...)

I agree with Aubri that you should definitely at least fill the prescription now (especially while you can). Then plan to only use it temporarily.

rachael grinds her teeth and I think she has a mouth guard, you might ask her about that.

I got a hard plastic retainer cause the soft plastic one wasn't enough and it works wonderfully. I can now tell when I don't where it at night because my temples hurt. Chewing gum or anything really tough is not supposed to be good with TMJ (I can't chew gum really anymore cause my jaw kills if I do).

Aw, Leisy! I hope your skin if fine! ANd I hope the TMJ is managable. Take care!

Are you kidding Leisy?? I know a wonderful Chiropractor who is free for family members...yes, you're family. (Don't tell any of the MD crowd) He can do wonders with TMJ, trust me! Atleast let him look at you! (Don't be a chicken) Talk to Craig if you don't believe me!

Oh, that pic makes me miss Toledo. You look SKINNY in it. :) Good luck with the TMJ. TMJ sucks.

Maybe you'll grow out of it? I had something similar on my mission...all I know is that it was always popping and hurting (maybe from so much talking, which I didn't normally do in everyday life). It eventually went away, but maybe it was something totally different.
I agree with Linds...you are skinny! I just wish I loved running as much as you do.

I have also realised that I am never in any of the posts, because like you I am always behind the camera! I also had TMJ when younger. I also had a mouth guard at night. Got use to it and yes it did work. Keep smiling and you will get there

I hate my mouth gaurd but I notice a differance when I wear it and don't wear it. I didn't like the muscle relaxers-I couldn't wake up-so I don't take those-also I don't chew gum anymore. I LOVED gum hardest thing for me to quit. But now I can tell a differance. My jaw is pretty bad also- so I hope yours gets feeling better soon.
