Hello terrible twos. Welcome back to our house.

I somehow thought Ike had skipped this phase altogether.  Zeb jumped into it a little earlier when Ike came along at 20 months, so when we passed 24/25 -and even month 26- with pretty rational behavior from Ike, I thought we were safe.  I was wrong.  Irrationality has arrived.  Only he's older and talks and is pretty strong this time around.

Exhibit A.  Arms crossed. foot stomped. "I don't want to play with you" has also been shouted.  Unfortunately these have all been learned from Zeb :)
Exhibit B. Zeb's soccer games. Ike is inconsolable and just wants to play. He wants to wear Zeb's jersey and he wants to kick the ball into the goal.  He becomes a raving lunatic when each game begins and he comes to the realization that he's not playing.
And finally- Exhibit C.  Do you see Zeb's nose?  Ike loves to throw things when he gets really mad.  This wound happened to be from a flashlight.  And you can't see the bruise on the other side of his head that came from a huge roll of giant packing tape.

It's a rough phase.  But- then again so is the 'almost four' phase.   We are playing spring soccer this year and it's been a lesson for all us. A lesson in patience, competition, crying, frustration, etc.

Zeb just doesn't get why no one will give him the ball.  Stealing toys has never been an issue for this kid- but for whatever reason he can't grasp the idea of getting in there to 'steal' the ball.

He's getting better, though.  Last night we even got him to run around and try his hardest (without the help from one of us) to get the ball from somebody!  He even got in there a few times :)

oh man, that was soccer for us too. We finally gave up! too much crying. Unfortunately, I was also prego with Sophie at the time and it was super hot, humid and included fire ants all over the field, did I mention Craig was the coach?? He loved it, but the kids, not so much. They just wanted the snack!

Those pics make me so excited for Henry to start little league. Amy's story only deepens that excitement. I look forward to orange slices in an ice cream bucket and juice boxes,

O man. I'm glad you shared this today. I loved seeing Kent on the sidelines giving Zeb that motivational speech. Aaron has to play the piano at a baptism this Saturday, and I've made him late to school with practicing ... and crying and sobs. It can be the torture chamber!! But, they learn - they grow - they eventually do it and succeed!

That Ike has got a good arm. ;)

I'm sorry for the terrible twos visiting your house but I happened to laugh through a lot of this post. Mostly when you said Ike threw packing tape. :)

All our guys played soccer..Craig and Jack stuck it out for 7yrs! Phil and Jord only did 2 seasons.. I love soccer, but we didn't start them until they were around 6..I always call that "bumblebee" ball..they just follow the crowd around the ball not really getting the concept. He looks very cute in his jersey! It will get better..someday!

It looks like you guys have been so busy having fun! I love little kids playing soccer. It is so cute to watch the pack run around the ball. Sounds like you guys should all wear football helmets around Ike just for safety

We are starting to have the same thoughts that maybe we will pass the terrible 2's Maybe it's still juts waiting right around the corner getting ready to pounce...let hope not! And I am jealous Zeb is in soccer, I wanted to do that with cohen but I thought it was only in the fall. He looks very cute in his uniform and I'm sure it's hilarious to watch the kids run around!

Your little boys remind me of my brothers. This post made me chuckle I felt so bad for poor little Ike wanting to play soccer with his big brother! Good luck with Ike's terrible 2's, but if it makes you feel any better he does good in nursery :)

That group of little tykes running around after a soccer ball gave me the giggles.
