Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.  Somebody help me, please! I'm on a major sugar detox and it's so much harder than I thought it would be.  Today is day two of no candy or super processed foods (cakes, cookies, granola bars, crackers, etc).  I have eaten soooooo terribly the past month (or three) that I just felt like I need a junk detox.  And these very m&ms are just screaming at me to be eaten.  Our house is still full of easter leftovers- and really the m&ms are the only things I have a really really hard time resisting.

In just these two days I've realized just how much junk I've been eating lately.  Yesterday to try and keep my munchies under control I ate three clementines, one banana, one apple, and two large carrots.  And those were JUST my snacks between meals.  And I was still craving sweets afterwards!  what other alternatives are there?!?!
Don't worry- this isn't going to last forever- just long enough to help me focus on healthier alternatives. As an "extreme" person I'm always trying to balance out my life and I found that lately I've been behaving like a left wing crazed candy liberal.  No regard to cost or consequence of the crazed consumption :)
Wish me luck. I'm sure you'll see me with junk food in hand shortly. And if you have any suggestions- please feel free to comment.

I'm curious what "a lot" of candy eating is to you. I bet it's nothing. I'm with you though...I know for a FACT anothe Twix will make me sick and I do it anyway. I lova candy.

As a diehard chocoholic, I'm no help. But I was thinking of you all during Elder Bednar's talk at conference: what did you think of his tie?

May I suggest not putting pictures of candy on your blog. That might help avoid the reminder that you are going without them...

Moderation in all things, Leisy. I've tried fasting from sugar and it only gets worse when you eat your first M&M again.

Try sweets only on the weekends? I used to be really good at doing that and it worked for me. Just an idea.

Oh boy! If only I had some advice on the subject, then i would take it myself! I've been trying to abstain from sugar for the past 3 weeks, and it's sooo much harder than I thought it would be. Especially when it seems like I live in a gingerbread house full of candy. (we live at Matt' grandma's house and grandparents always seem to have jars of candy on every table, countertop or any other flat surface area!!!) Thankfully they are no M&M's here that I know of or they would be taunting me too. Good luck in sugar free land! Doesn't it feel so liberating just trying to cut the junk out? Hey I know what we need, Grandpa Howell used to have a cassette tape in his car that he would listen to that said "sugar is evil, sugar is bad" over and over again. That just might do the trick!

does sugar free jello count? that's always yummy. peach flavored. And can you have sugar free beverages? I recommend diet A&W rootbeer. It is creamy delicious. Send your m&ms to me please.

Maybe you should throw in a handful of raw almonds to go with your fruit - or better yet, how about almond m&m's. Good luck. You're a much better woman than I.

Mom ... hahaha!

On the VERY rare occassions we try to go w/a smaller amount of sugar - we buy the sugar free life savors and popcycles. They are SO yummy ... and help soothe the pain of craving. :)

I have a sign posted in front of my face at my desk at work that says NO CANDY DAY and it helps if I have healthier food around to snack on--like Mrs. Fields cookies made with blueberries, spinach, flax, and half whole wheat. They are filling.

mum- send me some of the cookies, please. :)

dear sister.. i have just learned some tricks from my classes! first of all.. have a strict eating regime monday-thursday. no sweets etc and cut down on calories. then fri-sat allow yourself a little bit of sweets. slowly take out friday, then a couple weeks later saturday or sunday. i'm starting with 1000 caloric intake monday-wednesday 1200 on thursday and 1500 friday-saturday. sweets are my weakness..
ALSO fruits are natures candy they do have sugars but to curb your appetite you need things like veggies although bananas will also help!
STRAWBERRIES! and watermelon is what your body is secretly craving because its getting warmer.
LOVE YOU!

I love candy and crave it daily and I don't care. However, I find that when I am full, after a balanced dinner, I don't want any candy. Replace it with filling foods, proteins, complex carbs. Or, eat just one m&m. Give it to them homeless/shelters.

If you were good, you could allow yourself 10 M&M's and then the total detox would not be so bad, but it takes a lot of will power

Have you tried craisins and peanuts together! I love the salty sweet combination, plus the protein from the peanuts fills you up.
But I agree, going completely sugar free is hard. My niece has been almost a year without it and she's only 10! The $100 incentive from her parents is what keeps her going.

Try dried mangoes and apricots! or just be so crazy busy and stressed that you don't have time to worry about it. Being home all day is torture for those trying to cut back on sweets. have you tried watermelon sugar free gum?

I have to say, I hate you for that picture. All day I did sooooooo good at abstaining from the leftover easter candy, which consisted of M&Ms and peanut butter cups. All day I succeeded. Then I had a casual thought: Let's just go see what Leisy is up to. Innocently, I clicked on your blog. I looked, I read. And then I walked immediately over to the cupboard and ate every last M&M. Curse you. And curse the power of suggestion. And curse that pretty picture. Did you take it? And curse M&M for making that delicious candy. I love them so much. They are my favorite common candy. The perfect storm. I worked out hard that night.

cass- yeah it's my pic but I tweeked it with photoshop :) oh- and I could totally become obese on m&ms alone if I let myself!

I have a friend that did an eating plan called the up and down eating plan. You start 1st day down which means no sugar or bad foods, eat healthy and low calorie. Next day is up day eat whatever you want. She found that sooner than later she didn't want to mess up her down days by overdoing it on up days. So she found herself eating mostly healthy, knowing that if she wanted a few m&ms she could have it on her up day. It worked really well for her but of course, I have never got around to trying it. That is definately on my to do immediately list!!! Love to all of you!!!
