I know, I know.

I am fully aware that it is only October and I've just posted a picture of a christmas tree. It's usually one of my greatest pet peeves- Christmas things before mid November- but desperate times call for desperate measures. This is an advent calendar- the pottery barn kids advent calendar- and I'm totally in love.

So, here's the question. Should I buy it? I LOVE advent calendars and I'm always on the lookout for the advent calendar, but this one is a little pricey. This week I did a little nannying job and earned enough money to cover the price (it's under 100 but more than fifty) and I actually spotted the tree in a catalogue at the family's house who I was nannying for. Doesn't that kind of seem like it's fate? I am meant to buy this tree, right?

Really I want some advice on the purchase because Kent isn't of much help. He tells me to get it. I think it's because I told him he wouldn't have to eat all of the nasty chocolate out of those paper cheap ones we get every year. but, is it worth it? Is it a good one? I am uncomfortable making purchases that exceed twenty- thirty dollars (which is why I can't pay our bills or look at the total when I check out of the grocery store) so I'm really nervous. I think I just need a little bit of reassurance about big purchases like this. Am I making the right choice? It's like buying jeans. I always need someone (other than kent!) there to tell me they look good and are worth the price.

Laney said it sounds like I could make this one- but that is NOT an option. The time and stress it would require are far above my patience threshold.

So, I would really appreciate some words of advice- any suggestions- etc. Be quick. Usually these things sell out fast and right now there's free shipping!

It is really cute and looks classy...like all pottery barn stuff. But that is a lot for an advent calendar and pottery barn stuff is VERY overpriced. Considering that it's overpriced, is the quality and enjoyment you'd get out of it worth what you will pay for it?

Send me a link to check it out before I can counsel you on spending that much money (or me if I decide to spring for it for a Christmas gift for you--frugal mother alert!).

Love ya!

It looks so cute and very large...would it be a sub for a real tree that you would be spending money on? Sometimes things just call out to your soul and it's always worth the price. Now, I like your Mom's idea as a Christmas gift!

Oh, just buy it. It's a lot cheaper than the one I want: http://www.potterybarn.com/products/advent-calendar/?pkey=x|4|1||10|advent%20calendar||0&cm_src=SCH

And if your sister wants to make one, she can buy some appliques here: http://craftersmarket.net/kifeapchadca.html and just make her own huge tree to put them on. Tempting... Super Saturday?

I think you should get it! I like to divide the years I will enjoy it by the price. It will last for MANY Christmases and it will be a thing that your kids really remember and make Christmas special. I think that's worth it! I know that now my older kids have a special fondness for our advent calendar (cute, but not THIS cute) because it's something that made them so excited when they were little. GET IT. You'll be glad you did every year when you get it out.

Amen to not making it! I'm sick of all these talented people making things that should really just be bought! I'm really not kidding.

BUY IT! You are always saving money and finding deals and going without. If there is occasionally something you want that is not on sell-just buy it and love it and enjoy it. Oh and look for a coupon code online! Have fun!

I vote for buying it. In my experience, when you know that you love something and it's something that you can use over and over, you won't regret buying it. This seems like one of those items that you'll love and use over and over. You'll justify the purchase if you stop buying the cheapo ones and just invest in this one now.

I say get it! I am with Jeni- you are going to enjoy it for years to come, so it will totally be worth it.

Definately BUY IT! I always regret not having something I really wanted because it was a little costly. Mandi is right -
Cost divided by years of enjoyment=priceless.

I really love money in the bank but apparently that's not the American way.

hah! who needs money in the bank? life is sooo much more exciting when you are poor. Buy it! Really, I am fairly good about not buying outrageous things and if we had money to put in the bank, we'd do it. But I really think you would enjoy the tree for many years to come,it would become a family tradition. And you could buy one for us as an early christmas present? I'd buy you some jeans...Zeb too.

Do it. Your home during the holidays will be happier with it.

Yep - saving money in a million places means that you are ready to get the perfect thing when you want it. And it's SO much more fun to get it when it's really exciting than after a couple years of waiting and waiting. Order it tonight!

But I have to say that it wouldn't be a killer project to make. It's just not worth it unless you think it sounds like a FUN project. If it's torture, it's never worth saving the money! :)

I ALWAYS regret not buying something that I love ... and you've already got the money earned ... and free shipping ... and when do you ever splurge ... you deserve it ... so many GOOD reasons!

i am cracking up at this anonymous person. What a joke! If you have something to say, attach your name to it.
You of all people, Leisy, have money in the bank, and would only buy something you can pay cash for.
