"Into the Wild"

I started it last night and couldn't put it down! Eventually my exhaustion kicked in and I closed the book with just a few chapters to go. The internet wasn't working this morning so I decided to finish it up while Zeb roamed the apartment :)
The story is fascinating. It's just over two hundred pages and I'd wished it kept going. Jon Krakauer, the author, tells the story of Chris McCandless, a young man who decides to abandon his normal life and roam the country. Eventually he decides to live off the land in Alaska for a summer. It's based off his own journal entries and interviews from people he met on his trek. Just an overall intriguing book.
I highly recommend it.

do you know much about the author jon krakauer? have you heard of his book under the banner of heaven? I hear he is a great author but when he writes a whole book based on sensationalized semi-truths about the mormon church, part of me wonders about his credibility. But I have heard good things about his other books like Into thin Air.

I loved Into Thin Air, but Chris McCandless in Into the Wild made me crazy. I just could not understand his motivations. He was crazy, and although Jon Krakauer tried to validate Chris's motives and experience, the thought that kept running through my head was, "How could you do this to your mother?"
Under the principle of full disclosure, though, I should say that I have issues with Jon Krakauer and his credibility, and that certainly fueled my irritation.

sure, I think Chris McCandless was crazy, but I still loved the book. I also thought that eventually Jon Krakauer actually decided that Chris was a kook. He gave arguments for his insanity but sided with his craziness. The book is based on journal entries and LOTS of speculation. I never considered it to be a work of perfection or fact so I didn't have to stress about credibility.

Hi Kent, Leisy & Zeb, I have been a very bad blogger but I am now going to repent and get going. I know nothing about the books of which you speak or the authors but I did like "The Other Boleyn Girl" I read it while flying to and from Maui and I am going to see the movie that just came out!!! I love your blog. Ms. Leisy you are such a cute, fun, girl & Kent you are such a cute fun manly man!!! Of course Zebie takes the cake!!!I want Kent to do his internship in Vegas so you can live by me. I am supposed to be out finding a job but I will find anything else to do...make quilts, watch HGTV, make calls for Mitt Romney when he was still going for it:( I even got to be squished in a room with zillions of people and I shook his hand!!! Anyway I will try to be more like you and update the blog everyday. Which I can easily do but I like the pictures and I am not to good at that...mental block...demension I just don't know. Love Ya, Auntie Cindy

Hmm, thanks for the book suggestions. They both sound like good reads and now I'll have to see if I can hunt them down over here.
